I have been blogging since 2006 and over the years certain topics have become increasingly prevalent on my personal blog.
Raised in a family of three girls and educated at a girls school in Hertfordshire, England, I have grown up with certain understandings of the rights of women. Unleashed on the world I shyed away from the word “feminist” – they were the bra burning women of my mother’s generation. They had things to fight for while my peers and I joined a liberated and equal world that was our oyster.
In recent years I have learnt that my upbringing was priviledged in many ways. I would struggle to think of instances where my gender has held me back. However sexism is instutitionalised and offensive behaviour towards women is still seen in even the most modern of societies.
This blog is a place where I share my thoughts – which I now know to proudly label as feminist. Here, I react to events in the world and closer to home in the lives of my friends and family. Please comment on my posts. This is a live issue and debate is essential to continue to progress and publicise the feminist cause as it changes and evolves in the 21st century.
